CNN Data Analyst Delivers Stark Polling Reality Check to President Trump
CNN's chief data analyst Harry Enten delivered a brutal reality check to President Donald Trump on Thursday, directly challenging the president's recent boasts about his approval ratings. This intervention came exactly one week after Trump celebrated polling that showed he maintained 100% approval among his core MAGA voter base.
The MAGA Base Versus Broader Electorate
"Look, President Trump is quite popular with MAGA," Enten acknowledged during an interview with "The Source" host Kaitlan Collins. "But of course, they are just a certain portion of the electorate." The analyst then expanded his analysis to present what he termed the "reality check": "Donald Trump has never been more unpopular in his second term in office."
Enten's pointed analysis followed unusual praise from Trump toward CNN, after the network initially reported polling showing complete approval from MAGA-aligned voters. The president called it an "honor" and said he was "impressed" by the network's coverage, marking a rare moment of positive commentary about a media outlet he frequently criticizes.
Disapproval Ratings Reach New Heights
Citing specific data from a Fox News poll released that same Thursday, Enten demonstrated to viewers that the president's overall disapproval rating has surged significantly. The numbers showed an increase from 51% to 59% since March of the previous year, indicating growing discontent beyond Trump's loyal base.
"It is in the polling aggregate as well," Enten emphasized, noting this wasn't an isolated finding from a single survey. "It has been poll after poll after poll in which he's either at or near an all-time high in terms of his disapproval rating." This consistent trend across multiple polling organizations suggests a broad and sustained pattern of declining public approval.
Public Opposition to Iran Conflict Grows
The data analyst delved deeper into public sentiment regarding Trump's handling of the ongoing conflict with Iran, telling Collins that Americans "don't like what's cooking." He referenced the same Fox News poll, which found that 64% of Americans now disapprove of the administration's approach to the war.
"The Fox News poll was one of the rare polls in which we had an even split early on in the war in terms of support and opposition, and now that support has plummeted, the opposition is up," Enten explained. He concluded definitively: "It is very clear, no matter which poll you look at, that the American people are not with Donald Trump when it comes to Iran, even if the MAGA base is."
This analysis aligns with an NBC News poll from early March that showed a majority of voters disapproving of Trump's Iran war management, though it simultaneously revealed that 90% of self-identified MAGA-aligned Republicans continue to support the president's military actions. The contrast between overwhelming MAGA support and broader public disapproval creates a striking political dichotomy as the conflict continues.
