MSNBC host Chris Hayes was left flabbergasted by recent footage from an Oval Office briefing in which President Donald Trump appeared to nod off. During his show "All In," Hayes addressed his guest, journalist Philip Bump, saying, "I feel like I'm losing my mind! How is that the president of the United States, Philip?"
Footage Shows Trump Closing Eyes
The video, taken on Thursday, showed Trump closing his eyes and then abruptly opening them as Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin spoke about coal. Hayes commented, "This is now a daily thing. Look, look! He's asleep! The man is asleep! He's not resting his eyes."
Previous Incidents and Criticism
This video follows a series of similar incidents where Trump has been seen closing his eyes and appearing drowsy at public events, leading critics to question the president's health. The administration has repeatedly pushed back on such questions. In one instance, the White House claimed Trump was "blinking," prompting the progressive X account Headquarters to respond with a clip of Trump slumped over with eyes closed for 17 seconds.
Hayes remarked on Friday that he felt people were becoming "acclimated to the absurdity" of Trump "falling asleep in public in front of everyone." He later clarified that he could not say with absolute certainty that Trump was indeed falling asleep, stating, "I have to say 'appearing' to fall asleep. He's appearing to fall asleep."
