Late Monday night, Temple Emanu-El synagogue in Toronto became the latest target when multiple gunshots struck its windows and doors, leaving visible bullet holes in the structure. This attack followed another shooting incident just days earlier on Sunday morning, where an undisclosed business in Markham, Ontario was fired upon with multiple rounds.
Police authorities have acknowledged community concerns that these violent incidents may be connected to events unfolding in the Middle East. While no injuries have been reported in these recent attacks, the psychological impact and atmosphere of fear they create cannot be underestimated.
Iranian-Canadian Business Targeted
The violence extends beyond Jewish communities. Early Sunday morning, the Saliwan Boxing gym in Thornhill, Ontario—owned by Iranian-Canadian Salar Gholami—was similarly attacked with gunfire. The entrance was riddled with bullet holes and shattered glass, with police confirming the shooting was targeted though not yet establishing a definitive motive.
Gholami, an outspoken anti-Iranian regime activist who has helped organize large-scale protests against the Islamic Republic, believes his business was specifically targeted because of his political activities. "According to the supreme leader's ruling, they had said this themselves before, that we will punish those who organize rallies and demonstrations abroad," Gholami stated, suggesting the attack was carried out by agents of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Despite Iran being designated as a state sponsor of terror for years and the IRGC being placed on terrorist watch lists in 2024, reports suggest that suspected senior Iranian officials continue to reside in the country.
