In a post to his Truth Social platform Thursday morning, President Donald Trump chewed out the four congressional Republicans who dared to join Democrats to pass a war powers resolution on Wednesday. The resolution would require the president to get congressional approval before carrying out any more military operations in Iran. The four GOP members who joined Democrats to pass what is considered a pretty stunning rebuke to Trump were Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Tom Barrett (Mich.), Warren Davidson (Ohio) and frequent critic Thomas Massie (Ky.).
Trump's Reaction
President Donald Trump called the four GOP members of the U.S. House who joined Democrats to pass a war powers resolution "GRANDSTANDERS."
“Yesterday, in a meaningless vote, the House voted, 4 bad Republicans and all of the Dumocrats, to limit my War Powers, right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote. “Who would do such an unpatriotic thing. They know where the negotiations stand. The Democrats are fueled by Trump Derangement Syndrome. They would rather have our Country fail than give me another, of many, victories.”
Trump continued, “The four Republicans, that’s a whole other story – They’re GRANDSTANDERS! They should be ashamed of themselves.”
Context and Criticism
Aside from a drama queen like Trump having the gall to call someone else a grandstander, the written temper tantrum in which the president calls out right-leaning figures whom he views as disloyal for not 100% agreeing on everything he does may be getting a little played out.
In April, Trump pulled a similar move in another rant on Truth Social in which he called four prominent MAGA-world personalities “nut jobs” for speaking out against his war in Iran. In the post, Trump crafted personalized attacks against Megyn Kelly, Alex Jones, Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson — and most seemed to shrug off the threat.
“It may be time to put Grandpa up in a home,” Owens responded on X.
