Sault woman charged with impaired driving after 911 call

A 38-year-old woman from Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with impaired driving and drug-related offences following a 911 complaint that led police to a vehicle on July 7, 2026.

Police respond to 911 call

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were dispatched to the area of Second Line East and Black Road around 10:50 p.m. after receiving a complaint via 911. Upon arrival, they located a vehicle matching the description provided by the caller.

The driver, identified as a local woman, exhibited signs of impairment, police said. A subsequent investigation led to the seizure of suspected drugs, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as drug paraphernalia.

Charges laid

The accused faces multiple charges under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. These include impaired operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime.

She was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for July 8, 2026, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie.

OPP urges public to report impaired driving

The OPP commended the member of the public who called 911, emphasizing that such reports are critical in preventing impaired driving incidents. “Impaired driving remains a leading cause of death on Ontario roads,” said OPP Constable Phil Young in a statement. “We encourage anyone who suspects an impaired driver to call 911 immediately.”

The investigation is ongoing, and police have not ruled out further charges.
