Ontario Provincial Police have arrested one person in Midland and lifted a shelter-in-place advisory that was issued Thursday morning following reports of a possibly armed individual.
Advisory Issued for Little Lake Park
The OPP's Southern Georgian Bay Detachment issued the shelter-in-place advisory at 10:40 a.m. for the area of Little Lake Park, approximately one kilometre south of Midland's downtown. Police reported a large presence in the area as officers responded to the situation.
"Officers are responding to reports of a possibly armed individual in the area," the OPP's Central Region stated in a Facebook post.
Public Safety Measures
Nearby residents were instructed to shelter in a secure location, lock all doors and windows, and close curtains or blinds to avoid drawing attention. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and not pick up hitchhikers, while people near the affected zone were asked to refrain from traveling there. The public was also warned not to approach or engage with anyone suspicious.
Police emphasized that the advisory was a precautionary measure to maintain public safety.
Arrest and Lifting of Advisory
At 11:45 a.m., the OPP ended the advisory after taking one individual into custody. "There is no threat to public safety," the OPP said in an update. "Members of the public may resume their regular activities."
No immediate information was provided on the person arrested or any charges they may face. Police indicated that officers may remain at the scene as the investigation continues. "OPP thanks the public for their patience and understanding while the response and investigation took place," police said.
