Vancouver police have charged a 67-year-old man after an incident in the city's West End on Wednesday night, where he allegedly wielded an electric chainsaw while approaching people near a coffee shop patio.
Incident details
According to police, the man was yelling obscenities near the intersection of Davie and Denman streets before turning on the electric chainsaw and walking toward bystanders. Witnesses reported that people quickly ran away from the area to avoid harm.
No injuries were reported, and police confirmed that the man was arrested within three minutes of receiving a 911 call at Beach Avenue and Burnaby Street.
Charges laid
David Meadows, 67, has been charged with one count of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The Vancouver Police Department seized the electric chainsaw as evidence.
Police spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison said, "This was a frightening situation for those in the area, but our officers responded quickly to ensure public safety."
