Israeli Airstrike Targets Hamas Infrastructure in Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces conducted a significant military operation on the evening of Tuesday, November 19, 2025, striking a training compound used by the Palestinian Hamas terrorist group in Southern Lebanon. The targeted facility was located in the area of Ain al-Hilweh, which hosts Lebanon's largest Palestinian refugee camp.

According to an official army statement, the compound was utilized by Hamas for "training and exercises to plan and carry out terrorist attacks" against both Israeli troops and the state itself. The IDF emphasized its ongoing commitment to "operating against Hamas's establishment in Lebanon" and stated it would persist in targeting Hamas operatives wherever they are active.

Precautions and Aftermath of the Attack

In its announcement, the Israeli military detailed that several precautionary measures were implemented to minimize potential harm to civilians in the vicinity of the military target. These measures included the deployment of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence gathering prior to the execution of the airstrike.

The strike resulted in significant casualties. Initial reports from Lebanese sources indicated that at least 13 people were killed and four others were wounded. Palestinian sources further clarified that a gathering of more than twenty individuals had convened at the compound at the time of the attack. Contrary to some initial speculation, no senior Hamas leaders were reported among the fatalities.

Conflicting Narratives and Broader Operations

In the wake of the attack, Hamas issued a statement denying the military nature of the site, claiming it was merely an open sports field frequented by local youth and contained no military installations. This assertion was directly challenged by the IDF.

IDF Arabic Spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, provided documented evidence on the social media platform X to counter Hamas's claims. He shared a Hamas invitation recruiting young people to join its activities, which listed the targeted complex as one of its official registration centres. "We precisely targeted a training and qualification complex affiliated with Hamas in Lebanon," Adraee wrote, "which was part of a plan to carry out attacks against Israel." He characterized Hamas's denial as a "desperate attempt" to conceal its terrorism.

In a related development, the IDF confirmed separate strikes in Southern Lebanon on Wednesday. Operations in the Bint Jbeil and Blida areas resulted in the elimination of two operatives from the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist army. One operative was targeted while attempting to re-establish Hezbollah's terror infrastructure, while the other was observed gathering intelligence on Israeli soldiers before being neutralized.
