Wood Buffalo RCMP are actively searching for two suspects involved in a home invasion that occurred early on July 9 at a residence in Gregoire Lake Reserve, south of Fort McMurray. The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Jeremy Lacorde and Leighton Haineault, both from Fort McMurray, are considered armed and dangerous. Police have warned the public not to approach them.
Details of the Incident
According to an RCMP release, two armed men entered the home, assaulted the victim at gunpoint, and demanded the victim's phone and money. The suspects then fled the scene on a black side-by-side vehicle. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries, Mounties said.
An extensive search of the area failed to locate the two men. However, a subsequent investigation by the Wood Buffalo RCMP identified Lacorde and Haineault as the suspects.
Charges Filed
Leighton Haineault faces charges of robbery with a firearm (accessory after the fact) and two counts of failure to comply with a release order. Jeremy Lacorde faces multiple assault charges, robbery with a firearm, two counts of theft under $5,000, and failure to comply with a release order.
Police say both suspects are known to carry weapons and are on the loose. They are known to frequent the Fort McKay, Fort McMurray, and Lac La Biche areas. The public is urged to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4000 or 310-7267 with any information about their whereabouts.
The investigation is ongoing.
