The Surete du Quebec (SQ) seized multiple firearms, brass knuckles, and a crossbow during a police raid, the provincial police force confirmed Thursday. The operation, conducted earlier this week, targeted individuals suspected of illegal weapons possession.
Details of the seizure
According to the SQ, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the Montreal area. During the search, they recovered three handguns, a rifle, a crossbow, and several pairs of brass knuckles. The items were found in plain view and hidden throughout the property.
No arrests have been made yet, but the investigation is ongoing. The SQ stated that the individuals linked to the residence are known to police for prior weapons-related offenses.
Context and broader concerns
This raid is part of a larger effort by Quebec law enforcement to curb illegal weapons trafficking and possession. In recent months, the SQ has conducted several similar operations across the province, targeting both organized crime and individual offenders.
“This seizure demonstrates our commitment to removing dangerous weapons from our communities,” an SQ spokesperson said in a statement. “We will continue to work with local police forces to ensure public safety.”
The crossbow, while not a firearm, is classified as a prohibited weapon under Canadian law when used in certain contexts. Brass knuckles are also prohibited items.
