Ex-Mountie Lawyer Says Crown Hasn't Proven Security Case

The lawyer for a former RCMP officer accused of a security offence for allegedly working with the Chinese government argued in court Wednesday that the Crown has not proven its case.

William Majcher, 45, is on trial in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver. He faces one count of breaching the Security of Information Act for allegedly providing information to China.

Defence lawyer Ian Donaldson told the jury that the Crown's evidence is circumstantial and does not establish beyond a reasonable doubt that Majcher intended to harm Canadian security interests.

Donaldson said his client was simply doing his job as a police officer and had no malicious intent. The trial continues.
