Edmonton Police Seize $8M in Drugs and Cash

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has seized more than $8 million in drugs, firearms, and cash following an interprovincial police investigation into drug trafficking. The operation was conducted in partnership with the Winnipeg Police Service, Parkland RCMP, and Ontario Provincial Police.

Investigation Details

The Winnipeg Police Service initiated the investigation in May 2024 based on reports of drug trafficking in their city. This two-year investigation involved multiple agencies, including the EPS, RCMP, and Ontario Provincial Police, as stated in an EPS news release.

In February 2026, EPS and Parkland RCMP acted on shared intelligence from the Winnipeg investigation to launch a joint drug trafficking investigation. This led to the execution of a search warrant near 109 Street and Jasper Avenue in Edmonton.

Arrests and Charges

EPS arrested and charged Kreston David, 26, with five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm, and proceeds of crime.

Staff Sgt. Jen McCann of the EPS Edmonton drug and gang enforcement unit commented, “We’re pleased our partners at the Winnipeg Police Service brought their large-scale investigation to a successful conclusion, and that EPS officers were able to locate and arrest a suspect in Edmonton found with more than 80 kilograms of drugs. Strong partnerships and intelligence sharing are essential to disrupting drug trafficking across the country.”

Winnipeg Investigation Results

The full Winnipeg investigation resulted in the arrests of 33 individuals and 174 counts of drug trafficking, proceeds of crime, and conspiracy-related charges. Investigators seized more than $37.2 million worth of illicit drugs, 1.35 million illegal cigarettes, approximately $825,000 in currency, and 14 firearms.

This joint operation highlights the effectiveness of interprovincial cooperation in combating drug trafficking and organized crime.
