Bear Spray as a Weapon
Bear spray, a deterrent commonly used against wildlife, has been increasingly reported in violent incidents in Nova Scotia. In 2025, there were 14 documented cases of bear spray being used as a weapon in the province, according to RCMP statistics. The use of bear spray in assaults poses significant risks, including temporary blindness, respiratory distress, and panic.
RCMP Constable John Smith stated, “Bear spray is not a toy and should only be used for its intended purpose of deterring aggressive wildlife. Using it against another person can cause serious harm and will result in criminal charges.”
The investigation remains active, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Bridgewater RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
