Five men from the Greater Toronto Area accused of kidnapping and attempted murder at an abandoned gas station in Orillia are set to face trial, according to court documents. The case involves Surjit Singh Bains, Manraj Mann, Dwayne Pennant, Baltej Sandhu, and Gergy Anthony Gorburn, who were charged following a violent incident that occurred in 2025.

The alleged crime took place at a defunct gas station on Memorial Avenue in Orillia, where police say the victim was forcibly taken and assaulted. The victim sustained serious injuries but survived. Police arrested the five suspects shortly after the incident, and they have been in custody since.

During a recent court appearance, the accused waived their right to a preliminary hearing, moving the case directly to trial. The trial is expected to begin in early 2027 at the Ontario Superior Court in Barrie. Crown attorney Sarah Thompson confirmed that the prosecution is prepared to present evidence, including surveillance footage and witness testimony.
“The evidence against the accused is substantial, and we are confident that a jury will see the seriousness of these charges,” Thompson said in a statement.
