Rabbit Rescued After Struggling to Escape Pool in Barrie

A rabbit that went for a swim in a Barrie backyard pool had to be rescued after struggling to get out, according to Procyon Wildlife, a local wildlife rehabilitation centre.

The incident occurred on June 24, 2026, when the rabbit was found trapped in the pool. Procyon Wildlife shared a video of the rescue on Facebook, showing the animal being safely removed from the water.

Dangers of Backyard Pools

Wildlife experts warn that backyard pools pose significant risks to small animals like rabbits, which can easily fall in and struggle to escape due to slippery sides and lack of exit points. Procyon Wildlife recommends pool owners install ramps or floating devices to help animals get out.

“This rabbit was lucky to be found in time,” a spokesperson for Procyon Wildlife said. “Many animals drown in pools each year because they cannot find a way out.”

Rescue and Recovery

After the rescue, the rabbit was taken to Procyon Wildlife’s facility for assessment. It was found to be in good health and was later released back into the wild. The organization emphasized the importance of checking pools regularly for wildlife.

The rescue comes as temperatures rise across Ontario, prompting more people to use backyard pools. Procyon Wildlife urges homeowners to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to protect local wildlife.
