More than 20 dogs were abandoned in rural southern Ontario, prompting an investigation by the Cambridge & District Humane Society.
Dogs Found in Remote Area
The dogs were discovered in a remote area of rural Ontario, according to a statement from the humane society. The animals were left without food, water, or shelter, and many were in poor health.
"We are shocked and saddened by this cruel act," said a spokesperson for the Cambridge & District Humane Society. "These dogs were left to fend for themselves in a remote location, and it's a miracle they were found in time."
Investigation Underway
The humane society is working with local authorities to identify the person or persons responsible for abandoning the dogs. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to come forward.
"We are following all leads and hope to bring those responsible to justice," the spokesperson added.
Dogs Receiving Care
The dogs are now in the care of the Cambridge & District Humane Society, where they are receiving medical treatment, food, and shelter. The society is also assessing each dog's temperament and health to determine the best course of action for their future.
"Our priority is the well-being of these animals," the spokesperson said. "We are doing everything we can to help them recover and find loving homes."
Public Asked for Help
The humane society is asking the public for donations to help cover the cost of caring for the abandoned dogs. They are also seeking foster homes for the animals as they recover.
"We are grateful for the support we have already received, but we need more help to ensure these dogs get the care they need," the spokesperson said.
