The Moose Jaw Humane Society has found a unique way to draw attention to one of its feline residents: naming it after Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer. The cat, which has heterochromia—a condition resulting in two different-colored eyes—bears a striking resemblance to the baseball star, who also has heterochromia.
A Purr-fect Match
The shelter announced the naming on social media, sharing a photo of the cat alongside an image of Scherzer on the mound. The post quickly gained traction, with many fans expressing interest in adopting the lookalike pet. The Moose Jaw Humane Society hopes the playful connection will help the cat find a loving home.
Heterochromia in Humans and Animals
Heterochromia is a relatively rare condition that can occur in both humans and animals, resulting in irises of different colors. In Scherzer's case, his right eye is blue and his left eye is brown. The cat, also named Max Scherzer, displays a similar trait, making it a fitting namesake.
The shelter encourages potential adopters to come meet Max Scherzer the cat, who is described as friendly and affectionate. Adoption fees include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and a microchip.
