Two exciting new dining destinations have opened in British Columbia, offering unique culinary experiences that celebrate local ingredients and stunning settings. The Breeze in Sechelt and The Terrace at Mission Hill Family Estate Winery are must-visit spots this summer.
The Breeze in Sechelt
The Breeze is an ambitious new waterfront dining experience located at the Telus Marina in Sechelt. It is part of a 17,000-square-foot destination that will include accommodations and a community hub. The restaurant is helmed by chef Jack Chen, who has worked at renowned establishments such as Pear Tree, Bishop’s, L’Abattoir, Farmer’s Apprentice, and Coquille. After moving to the Sunshine Coast, Chen and his wife opened the short-lived but popular Brassica restaurant in Gibsons.
The Breeze highlights seasonal and locally sourced seafood and produce. “Every dish and drink has been designed to celebrate our community and the incredible ingredients found right here on the Sunshine Coast,” says Chen. Dinner is served daily and includes tonnato toast made with local albacore tuna, ling cod and chips, and braised beef short rib. Lunch, available Thursday and Friday, features dishes like a lamb burger and sockeye salmon cobb salad. Weekend brunch options include eggs benny and banana Foster pancakes. The Terrace at Mission Hill Winery
Mission Hill Family Estate Winery in Kelowna offers an iconic and dramatic open-air setting for a restaurant that is now open for the summer. The Terrace is perched above a vineyard and Okanagan Lake in a Romanesque complex, showcasing the area’s bounty in fresh, refined farm-to-table dishes. It offers two-course lunch, three-course dinner, and five-course chef’s tasting menus. Long-time estate chef Patrick Gayler and restaurant chef Heather Brummell are part of the reason the winery was named among the World’s 50 Best Vineyards last November, the first in Canada to earn this distinction.
The winery offers diverse food and wine experiences, including the Iconic Oculus Experience introduced last year in the refurbished Chagall Room. This experience includes a tour of the underground barrel cellar, amuse bouches, and tastings of the winery’s crown jewels—vintages of Oculus, a Bordeaux-style blend that earned a 100-point score in 2020. During the cellar tour, you will see the namesake oculus light shaft. Guests can try library vintages such as the 2013 Oculus and the 2021 vintage, described as silky, velvety, and smooth.
The summer concert series returns for its 19th year in the open-air amphitheatre perched above the lake. Artists performing this year include Tom Cochrane and Red Rider on July 8, Burton Cummings and his band on July 22, and Amanda Marshall on August 6.
Fairmont Pacific Rim Sports Patio
Sports fans and foodies alike will want to check out the Fairmont Pacific Rim sports patio in Vancouver this summer. Back for a second year and located in the hotel’s front plaza, the Pac Rim Sports Patio features a large outdoor screen broadcasting major sporting events. While watching the game, guests can enjoy tacos and craft beer from 33 Acres Brewing Company.
This summer, the patio will also offer dessert from Hype Chocolate’s Tu’i Hiapsek Treats Trailer, an Indigenous women-owned business that offers handcrafted chocolate, sweet and savoury bannock, and coffee drinks.
The Pac Rim Sports Patio is open for the summer from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily. For more information, visit fairmontpacificrim.com/dine/patio. Don’t miss the rooftop patio, where you can sip a cocktail and nibble on small plates like fresh oysters and charcuterie.
