Sheryl Crow Calls Trump's UFC Event 'Disgraceful and Void of Decency'
Sheryl Crow Slams Trump's UFC Event as Disgraceful

All she wants to do is have some fun — but this isn’t it. Sheryl Crow did not hold back when she published an Instagram story Monday about what she thought of the UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House’s South Lawn the day before — that just so happened to take place on President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

Sheryl Crow slammed President Donald Trump, seen speaking to MMA fighter Josh Hokit at the UFC Freedom 250 event. And really, the Grammy winner only needed five words to sum up what she thought: “disgraceful and void of decency.” But she had much more to say. “To stay quiet means to turn a blind eye,” the legendary ’90s singer began. “And so I am saying this.”

The “Soak Up the Sun” singer described what she felt were the optics of the event — which sounds a whole lot like a scene out of “Gladiator.” “Powerful, rich people filled the lawn to watch a violent sport that ended with a vile and racist comment,” Crow said, referring to UFC fighter Josh Hokit’s now-viral remark that former first lady Michelle Obama “is a man” — which he shouted into Joe Rogan’s mic after he won his bout.

“Do not be fooled,” Crow continued. “This administration is corrupt and does not give a damn about the American people. It only cares about making money hand over fist at the expense and in spite of our democracy.”

“If we continue to support this kind of distraction from reality, we are no better than them,” Crow concluded. “Let’s be better, America.”

Crow’s Instagram story Monday about the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House a day earlier. It seems that most Americans were about as thrilled as Crow about Trump’s bloody birthday bouts.

Last week, CNN data wizard Harry Enten pointed to data from Reuters/Ipsos that found that only 16% of the 4,531 Americans surveyed thought the UFC fights at the White House were appropriate. Enten then cited a separate Fox News poll from March showing that 60% of Americans believe the White House is “out of touch with people like you.”

“You have a White House that is putting on events such as these UFC fights, and you know, Americans’ top issue is inflation,” Enten said. “And you go to yourself, ‘Oh, OK. Appropriate? No on the UFC fights,’ and then you put it together with what they actually care about — no wonder that the American people, 60% say the White House is out of touch with people like them.”
