Land Rover Recalls Thousands of SUVs Over Injury Risk

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling thousands of SUVs in Canada and the United States due to a potential steering issue that could increase the risk of injury. The recall affects certain 2023-2024 Land Rover models, including the Velar, Discovery, and Evoque.

Details of the Recall

The recall stems from a problem with the steering column intermediate shaft, which may not have been properly tightened during assembly. This could lead to the shaft separating, resulting in a loss of steering control and an increased risk of a crash or injury. According to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects approximately 2,800 vehicles in the United States and an estimated 300 vehicles in Canada.

Affected Models and Production Dates

The recall covers specific 2023-2024 Land Rover Velar, Discovery, and Evoque models. Affected vehicles were manufactured between October 2022 and March 2024. Owners can check if their vehicle is included by visiting the NHTSA website or contacting a Land Rover dealer.

Remedy and Next Steps

Jaguar Land Rover will notify affected owners starting August 15, 2026. Dealers will inspect the steering column intermediate shaft and tighten it to the correct specification at no cost to the customer. Owners with questions can contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837.

“The safety of our customers is our top priority,” said a Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and encourage owners to schedule a service appointment as soon as they receive notification.”

Previous Recalls

This is not the first recall for Land Rover recently. In March 2026, the automaker recalled over 6,000 vehicles in North America due to a potential fire risk from a faulty fuel pump. The company has been proactive in addressing safety issues, but this latest recall adds to the brand's challenges in maintaining quality standards.

Impact on Owners

Owners of affected vehicles are advised to continue driving their SUVs but should be aware of any unusual steering behavior. If they experience a loss of steering control, they should pull over safely and contact roadside assistance. The recall is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
