A 22-year-old man from Brampton has been charged in connection with a vehicle theft that originated in the Peel region and ended near Carleton Place, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Incident Details
OPP officers observed three cars without license plates in Perth, Ontario, shortly after 2:00 a.m. on June 16, 2026. Earlier, a vehicle security monitoring company had alerted police that two stolen vehicles were being tracked heading east on Highway 7.
Police were unable to stop all three vehicles, but they arrested the driver of one. Harbalab Shergill, 22, of Brampton, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Recovery of Vehicles
The other two vehicles were found abandoned in Beckwith Township, southeast of Carleton Place, after the drivers fled on foot. Despite a search, the drivers of those vehicles could not be located.
Provincial Constable Corey Noonan confirmed that all three vehicles were Honda CRVs. He noted that it is common for car thefts to occur in the Greater Toronto Area, with the stolen vehicles then being driven to Montreal.
