Abbotsford Highway 1 Crash Leaves Motorcyclist Seriously Injured

A serious collision on a major British Columbia highway has left a motorcyclist with significant injuries and prompted a police appeal for public assistance.

Details of the Abbotsford Collision

The incident occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2026, just after 2:00 p.m. According to BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé, the crash involved a Suzuki motorcycle and a Mitsubishi SUV. It took place on Highway 1 near the intersection of Atkinson Road in Abbotsford.

Preliminary information from investigators indicates both vehicles were travelling westbound when the collision happened. "The impact of the collision was such that debris were strewn across the highway, resulting in serious injuries to the motorcyclist," stated Cpl. Bérubé. The driver of the Mitsubishi was not physically hurt in the accident.

Major Traffic Disruption and Investigation

The serious crash forced the closure of Highway 1 for approximately seven hours as emergency crews responded and police investigated the scene. The lengthy closure caused significant traffic delays in the area throughout Saturday afternoon and evening.

With the initial on-scene investigation complete, the BC Highway Patrol has now shifted its focus to gathering more evidence to understand the exact circumstances leading to the impact.

Police Issue Public Appeal for Evidence

Investigators are urgently seeking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who might have captured it on dashcam or other video footage. This evidence is considered crucial to the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the BC Highway Patrol in Chilliwack at 604-702-4039.
