Urgent Search for Missing Waverley Senior - RCMP Seek Help

Halifax District RCMP have launched an urgent public appeal to help locate a missing 74-year-old man from Waverley, Nova Scotia, who hasn't been seen since Tuesday afternoon.

Glenwood Garth Merrick was last spotted leaving his Waverley residence around 3:30 p.m. on June 11th, sparking concern among family and authorities. The senior is described as approximately 5'10" tall with a medium build, though police note he may appear disoriented or confused.

Investigators have released details about Merrick's last known outfit in hopes it will help the public identify him:

  • A distinctive red and black checkered jacket
  • Dark-colored pants
  • Brown work boots

"We're growing increasingly concerned for Mr. Merrick's well-being and are asking everyone in the Waverley area and beyond to keep an eye out," stated RCMP spokesperson Constable Jason McAdam. "Even the smallest piece of information could be crucial in bringing him home safely."

The search operation has expanded beyond Waverley to include surrounding communities in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Police are conducting ground searches and reviewing local surveillance footage while urging residents to check their properties, including sheds, garages, and wooded areas.

Authorities emphasize that Merrick's disappearance is considered out of character, heightening concerns for his safety given his potential disorientation.

Anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, is urged to contact Halifax District RCMP immediately at 902-490-5020. For those wishing to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted through Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
