Two individuals who went missing after falling from their paddleboard near Squamish have been found deceased. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team returned to Browning Lake on Tuesday and discovered the bodies, concluding a search that began on May 30.
Search Efforts
The Squamish RCMP confirmed the recovery of the two paddleboarders on Tuesday afternoon. The search was launched after authorities were contacted around 3 p.m. on May 30, when the pair failed to resurface after falling into Browning Lake in Murrin Provincial Park.
"A co-ordinated search effort was immediately initiated," police stated. Multiple agencies participated, including Squamish Search and Rescue, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service, Squamish Fire Rescue, B.C. Emergency Health Services, and RCMP Air One.
Ongoing Search
The search continued over the weekend, and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team returned to the lake on Tuesday to resume efforts before locating the bodies. Staff Sgt. Sasha Banks expressed gratitude: "We are deeply grateful for the dedicated support and co-ordinated efforts of our specialized teams and partner agencies who assisted in this search and recovery."
Murrin Provincial Park was closed to the public on Saturday evening to facilitate the police investigation and search. Browning Lake is a small lake located just off the Sea to Sky Highway, a few kilometres north of Britannia Beach.
