Anishinabek Police Service officers charged an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driver with impaired operation in Garden River, Ontario, on July 10, 2026. The arrest occurred after police stopped the vehicle during a routine patrol.

Traffic Stop Leads to Charges

According to police, officers observed the ATV being operated erratically on a local road. Upon stopping the driver, they detected signs of alcohol impairment. The driver was subsequently arrested and taken to the detachment for breath testing.

Police have not released the name of the accused, but confirmed the individual faces charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

Community Safety Concerns

The incident has raised concerns about off-road vehicle safety in the region. Anishinabek Police reminded the public that ATVs are subject to the same impaired driving laws as cars and trucks. "Operating any vehicle while impaired endangers everyone on the road," said a police spokesperson.
