Health Unit Response
Dr. Ian Arra, Medical Officer of Health for Grey Bruce Public Health, emphasized the importance of community awareness. “These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks of substance use. We encourage anyone using substances to take precautions, including not using alone and having naloxone available,” he said.
The health unit is working with local partners to monitor the situation and provide support. They remind the public that naloxone kits are available at local pharmacies and health centres.
What to Do in an Overdose
- Call 911 immediately if you suspect an overdose.
- Administer naloxone if available.
- Stay with the person until help arrives.
Grey Bruce Public Health continues to advocate for harm reduction strategies and access to treatment services. Anyone struggling with substance use is encouraged to seek help through local resources.
