Illegal drugs valued at millions of dollars were prevented from reaching the streets after police busted two drug labs and raided two additional locations in the Fraser Valley at the end of April. The RCMP dismantled an active fentanyl lab in Chilliwack and a large-scale ecstasy lab and pill press operation in Abbotsford following a months-long investigation.
Seizures and Street Values
Authorities seized 40 kilograms of finished fentanyl and 250 kilograms of ecstasy, also known as Molly. The street value of the fentanyl, which varies based on purity, could exceed $5 million, while the ecstasy may be worth up to $9 million, based on comparisons with other RCMP busts.
Impact on Public Safety
“The seizure of these drugs and firearms represents a significant disruption to organized criminal activity, removing dangerous substances and weapons from circulation. This kind of investigation truly enhances public safety and improves community well-being,” said Cpl. James Bennett. He added that investigators discovered one of the labs appeared to be expanding, but those plans were likely disrupted by the operation.
Details of the Raids
The ecstasy lab was busted on April 30, leading to the arrest of three men who were later released as the investigation continues. Two days later, police raided the Chilliwack fentanyl lab, seizing chemicals, equipment, packaging materials, $135,000 in cash, and 11 guns. In a separate operation on May 21, the RCMP also dismantled a clandestine drug lab in Abbotsford, where a large cache of illegal weapons was found on the property.
