Prosecutors have dropped a drug possession case against American Olympic skier Bode Miller, who was accused of possessing psilocybin mushrooms, according to court records released Wednesday.
Charges dismissed due to lack of evidence
The case, filed earlier this year in a New Hampshire court, alleged that Miller had possessed a controlled substance. However, the prosecution moved to dismiss the charges after determining there was insufficient evidence to proceed. Miller's attorney confirmed the dismissal, stating that the skier was "grateful the matter has been resolved."
Miller, 48, is a six-time Olympic medalist and one of the most decorated American skiers in history. He won gold in the men's combined at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and has multiple World Cup titles.
No comment from Miller
Neither Miller nor his representatives provided further comment on the case. The Associated Press reported that the dismissal was filed on June 25, 2026, and was granted by a judge the same day.
The incident had drawn attention due to Miller's high-profile status in the sports world. Psilocybin mushrooms are classified as a Schedule I substance under U.S. federal law, though some states have moved to decriminalize or legalize them for medical use.
Legal context
New Hampshire law criminalizes possession of psilocybin, but prosecutors determined that the evidence did not meet the standard for conviction. The case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning charges could potentially be refiled if new evidence emerges.
Miller has had previous legal issues, including a 2015 arrest for DUI in California, but this is the first known drug possession case against him. His career highlights include winning the overall World Cup title in 2005 and 2008.
