Bonnie Tyler has awoken from a coma, more than a month after undergoing emergency surgery. That is the good news. The less good news is that the singer's condition is still serious as she slowly recovers.
Family Provides Health Update
Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal, Tyler's family and team said in an update via the singer's website. Although her condition is improving, it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery, but it is going to take time.
When Did Her Health Deteriorate?
In May, the Total Eclipse of the Heart songstress underwent emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal, where she has a second home, after experiencing intense abdominal pain following inconclusive tests in London, the U.K. Sun reported. She remained in a Faro hospital and, due to complications, she was put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid with her recovery, a spokesperson said.
In April, the Welsh singer began to feel intense abdominal pain shortly after arriving in the country following inconclusive tests in London. She was taken to hospital with a serious tear in her bowel and had to have emergency surgery.
Portuguese media initially claimed Bonnie went into cardiac arrest when doctors first tried to bring her out of her induced coma several weeks ago, but her team hit back at the lurid and untrue reports days later in a statement on her website.
Healing Over Performing
As Tyler embarks on her recovery journey, her team explained that the singer was forced to pause performances for now. We are sorry to tell everyone that we will be cancelling, or postponing until next year where possible, all of our remaining shows this summer. This will affect every current show until the end of August. At present we are still hopeful that our shows in the autumn will go ahead.
The Holding Out For a Hero singer had already cancelled two performances last month at the SummerLUST Music Festival in Malta on May 22 and a show in Germany on May 30. She also had more than two dozen concerts across Europe scheduled throughout the rest of 2026.
Her reps apologized to fans and promoters, adding that they hope everyone will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances, and added, We hope to see you next year instead.
Tyler's team also thanked everyone for the huge outpouring of love and support from all over the world, noting that the singer is aware of, and very grateful for, your good wishes. The singer's last live appearance was at a London concert in March.
