An Argentine health official stated on Monday that there is an 'almost zero' probability that a Dutch man contracted hantavirus while in the city of Buenos Aires. The man, who was aboard a cruise ship that later docked in Europe, tested positive for the virus, raising concerns among passengers and health authorities.
Investigation into infection source
Officials are investigating other possible locations where the man may have been exposed to the virus, which is typically transmitted through rodent droppings. The Dutch man had traveled to several countries before boarding the ship, complicating the search for the source.
Global health response
The World Health Organization has emphasized that all countries are taking necessary precautions as passengers from the affected cruise ship disembark in various ports. Health screenings and monitoring are being implemented to prevent further spread.
Meanwhile, four Canadians from the same cruise ship are returning to British Columbia, where they will be monitored for symptoms. Hantavirus has an incubation period of up to six weeks, so vigilance remains high.
