President Donald Trump suggested Sunday that he expects fealty from his Supreme Court nominees while criticizing two of them, Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch.
Trump's Remarks on Social Media
"It's really OK for them to be loyal to the person that appointed them to 'almost' the highest position in the land, that is, a Justice of the United States Supreme Court," he wrote on Truth Social. Trump said he wanted his justices to behave more like those appointed by Democratic presidents, accusing those judges of invariably bending to the will of the Democrats who got them there.
"Democrat Justices always remain true to the people that honored them for that very special Nomination," he continued. "They don't waver, no matter how good or bad a case may be, but Republican Justices often go out of their way to oppose me, because they want to show how 'independent' or, 'above it all,' they are."
Contradictory Statements
The president later appeared to contradict himself with signature doublespeak. "I don't want loyalty, but I do want and expect it for our Country," he wrote.
Barrett and Gorsuch were part of the 6-3 decision in February to restrict Trump's tariff powers. His other appointee, Brett Kavanaugh, sided with Trump. "They were appointed by me, and yet have hurt our Country so badly!" he wrote on Sunday.
Financial Impact of Tariffs
Refunds are being issued to companies hurt by the duties, and the president claims the country is losing significant funds. "I do not believe they meant to do so, but their decision on Tariffs cost the United States 159 Billion Dollars that we have to pay back to enemies, and people, companies, and Countries, that have been ripping us off for years."
Trump continued, "I'm working so hard to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and then people that I appointed have shown so little respect to our Country, and its people. What is the reason for this?" Further down, he wrote, "Well, maybe Neil, and Amy, just had a really bad day, but our Country can only handle so many decisions of that magnitude before it breaks down, and cracks!!! Sometimes decisions have to be allowed to use Good, Strong, Common Sense as a guide."
Birthright Citizenship Claims
The president added "they" will be ruling against birthright citizenship, falsely claiming that it would make the U.S. "the only Country in the World that practices this unsustainable, unsafe, and incredibly costly DISASTER." However, according to the Pew Center, dozens of nations have birthright citizenship.
