A woman is facing multiple drug charges after Saint John police discovered her slumped over the steering wheel of a parked vehicle on Thursday morning. The incident occurred in the city's south end, prompting a response from law enforcement officers who conducted a wellness check.
Police respond to unconscious driver
According to a news release from the Saint John Police Force, officers were dispatched to the area around 10 a.m. after receiving reports of a person appearing unconscious behind the wheel of a parked car. Upon arrival, they found a 32-year-old woman unresponsive and slumped over the steering wheel. The vehicle was stationary and not involved in any collision.
Police say the woman showed signs of drug impairment. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a quantity of suspected drugs, including methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as cash believed to be proceeds of crime. The estimated street value of the seized drugs has not been disclosed.
Charges laid
The woman was arrested at the scene and later charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of a controlled substance. She was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
