Windsor Regional Hospital recognized six physicians this week for their outstanding contributions to patient care, research, education and leadership. The awards were presented Wednesday during the Professional Staff Association's quarterly meeting, where colleagues gathered to celebrate achievements across the hospital's medical community.
Honoring Excellence in Medicine
"These awards are a testament to the exceptional skill, dedication and compassion our professional staff bring to patient care every day," said Dr. Wassim Saad, chief of staff at Windsor Regional Hospital. "Their commitment to clinical excellence, innovation and advancing healthcare has a meaningful impact on the patients and families we serve."
Hospital president and CEO Kristin Kennedy noted that the recipients reflect the many ways physicians and other professional staff contribute beyond direct patient care. "At Windsor Regional Hospital, we are fortunate to have professional staff who not only provide outstanding clinical care, but also advance research, mentor future healthcare professionals, and help shape the future of healthcare in our region," Kennedy said.
Award Recipients
Among the recipients was Dr. Abdalla Shamisa, who received the Educator and Mentor Award for his commitment to teaching, mentorship and creating a supportive learning environment for learners and colleagues. The Excellence in Research Award was presented to Dr. Padmaja Naidu for her work advancing research in clinical obesity and metabolic health.
Dr. Roli Agrawal received the Keystone Award, which recognizes a trusted and collaborative colleague whose expertise has made a meaningful impact across departments. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Dr. Corinna Quan in recognition of a distinguished career and longstanding contributions to patient care and organizational excellence.
Additional Honorees
Dr. Jason Metcalf was honoured with the Newcomer Award for demonstrating leadership, a team-focused approach and a commitment to education early in his tenure at the hospital. The Spirit of Medicine Award, presented in memory of Dr. Percy Demers, was awarded to Dr. Takeshi Takahashi for exemplifying compassion, integrity and leadership.
In addition to the annual awards, the hospital recognized a number of professional staff members for lengthy service milestones ranging from 35 to 50 years. Hospital officials said the service awards highlight the dedication and experience of healthcare professionals who have served generations of patients in Windsor-Essex.
