The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) in Montreal has announced it will be disconnecting its phone line for booking blood tests and other medical appointments. The change, effective immediately, aims to streamline scheduling and reduce administrative burdens.
Transition to Digital Booking
Patients are now required to use the MUHC's online portal or mobile app to schedule appointments. The health centre encourages patients to create accounts and familiarize themselves with the digital system to ensure uninterrupted access to services.
“We understand this may be challenging for some patients, but the move to digital booking will improve efficiency and reduce wait times,” said a MUHC spokesperson. The centre will provide assistance to those who need help navigating the new system.
Impact on Patients
Some patients, particularly seniors and those without reliable internet access, have expressed concerns about the change. Patient advocacy groups are urging the MUHC to maintain alternative options for vulnerable populations.
The MUHC stated that exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis, and staff will be available in person to assist with scheduling at the hospital.
This decision follows a broader trend in healthcare toward digital transformation, aimed at improving patient experience and operational efficiency.
