Three months after announcing he is in remission from two separate cancers, Dave Coulier is sharing new details about the toll his treatment has taken on his body. The 65-year-old actor, best known for playing Uncle Joey on the beloved sitcom Full House, posted an update on social media revealing that he has lost 45 pounds and has been unable to eat solid food for months due to radiation therapy for throat cancer.
Radiation Treatment Takes a Heavy Toll
In an Instagram reel posted on Thursday, Coulier addressed fans who had noticed changes in his appearance and voice. “I haven’t posted in quite a while, and the last time I did some of you said that I look differently and I sound differently, and I do,” he said. He explained that the changes are a result of “extensive radiation” treatment for carcinoma in his throat. Coulier was first diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2024, and a year later, he was diagnosed with HPV-related tongue cancer. “I haven’t been able to eat solid food in months, and so I’ve lost 45 pounds,” he added. “That’s what you’re seeing, and it’s affected my ability to speak.” He confirmed that fans who noticed vocal changes were correct: “You’re right on with what you are seeing and what you’re hearing.”
Positive Prognosis Despite Difficult Recovery
Despite the grueling treatment, Coulier shared encouraging news. “We got our PET scans back, and the prognosis looks good for both the carcinoma in my throat and the lymphoma,” he said. “So we’re very pleased with all of that.” The second cancer was discovered during a routine six-month follow-up after his lymphoma treatment, when doctors noticed an enlarged tumour on PET scans. Initially, Coulier thought it was related to his lymphoma, but later learned the two cancers were unrelated.
Remission and Reflection
In February, during an appearance on Good Morning America, Coulier described his health journey as a “roller-coaster ride for sure.” He confirmed, “I’m in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been.” The actor underwent 35 radiation treatments for the tongue cancer in late 2025, which he said came with “totally different side effects” compared to his lymphoma treatment.
Lifestyle Factors Under Scrutiny
During an April appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Coulier revealed that he began examining everyday products after questioning why his lymphatic system had “crashed.” He listed items such as toothpaste, shampoo, garbage bags, toilet paper, and skin cream as potential contributors. “Everything,” he said, emphasizing his concern about toxic chemicals in daily use products.
Coulier is best known for playing Joey Gladstone, better known as Uncle Joey, on Full House, the long-running ABC sitcom that aired from 1987 to 1995. The show followed widowed father Danny Tanner, played by the late Bob Saget, as he raised his three daughters with the help of Joey and brother-in-law Jesse, played by John Stamos.
