Edmonton-Bonnyville Teacher Charged with Child Luring

A teacher who worked in Edmonton and Bonnyville has been charged with child luring following an investigation into messages sent to a minor boy. The Alberta RCMP announced the charges on October 28, 2024, after receiving a complaint about inappropriate communications.

The accused, whose name has not been released to protect the victim's identity, is alleged to have sent messages of a sexual nature to a boy under the age of 16. The investigation began when the child's parents reported the messages to police.

RCMP say the teacher faces one count of luring a child via a computer system. The accused was arrested and released on conditions, including not to contact the victim or any person under 18, and not to use the internet or social media.

The teacher was employed by both the Edmonton Public School Board and the Bonnyville Catholic School Division. Both school boards have placed the teacher on administrative leave pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.

Police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. They also remind parents to monitor their children's online activity and report any suspicious behavior.

The next court appearance is scheduled for November 2024.
