Ottawa students and parents should prepare for wet weather as the school year winds down. Environment Canada is forecasting rain and possible thunderstorms for the final days of school in the nation's capital.
Forecast details
Showers are expected to begin Wednesday and continue through Thursday, with a risk of thunderstorms. High temperatures will remain near seasonal averages, around 22°C. The rain is expected to taper off by Friday, just in time for the start of summer break.
Impact on end-of-year activities
Many schools have outdoor events planned for the final week, including sports days, field trips, and graduation ceremonies. Organizers are advised to have indoor backup plans. The Ottawa Catholic School Board and Ottawa Carleton District School Board have not announced any cancellations yet, but individual schools may adjust schedules based on conditions.
According to CTV News Ottawa meteorologist Josh Pringle, "The risk of rain is highest on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, with potential for localized downpours."
Safety reminders
Parents are reminded to send children with umbrellas and raincoats. Drivers should exercise caution on wet roads, especially near school zones. Environment Canada advises that lightning from thunderstorms could pose a risk, so outdoor activities should be moved indoors if thunder is heard.
