A woman was injured after being struck by a train while walking on the tracks in Bedford, Nova Scotia, on Thursday morning. The incident occurred just before 10 a.m., according to Halifax District RCMP.
Police say the woman was walking along the railway tracks near the Bedford Highway when she was hit by a passing train. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.
The train operator stopped immediately and remained on scene to assist with the investigation. No other injuries were reported.
RCMP are reminding the public that walking on railway tracks is illegal and extremely dangerous. Trains can approach silently and at high speeds, making it difficult for pedestrians to react in time.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Halifax District RCMP.
