Winnipeg fire crews battled a wildland fire in the Archwood area that scorched an area roughly half the size of a football field, officials said Saturday.
Fire Details
The blaze was reported on Friday afternoon near Archwood Street and Archibald Street. Firefighters arrived to find flames consuming grass and brush, spreading quickly due to dry conditions. Crews contained the fire within hours, preventing it from reaching nearby structures.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service reminded residents to exercise caution with outdoor fires and to report any suspicious activity.
Response
Multiple fire units responded to the scene, including engine companies and a water tanker. The fire was declared under control by early evening. Officials noted that the dry spring weather has increased the risk of wildland fires across the region.
