Weak Tornado, Two Downbursts Confirmed in Chatham-Kent

An EF0 tornado and two downbursts have been confirmed in the Chatham-Kent region following a storm on June 12, 2026. The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) reported that the tornado touched down near Croton, Ontario, uprooting a large tree. The downbursts caused additional damage in the area. No injuries were reported.

Storm Details

The storm system moved through southwestern Ontario, bringing strong winds and heavy rain. The EF0 tornado, the weakest on the Enhanced Fujita scale, had estimated wind speeds of 105 to 137 km/h. The two downbursts were classified as severe straight-line wind events.

Damage Assessment

In Croton, the tornado uprooted a large tree, which fell onto a property. Downbursts in nearby areas caused minor structural damage and downed power lines. Local officials are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage.
