Canada is set to face Qatar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday, June 18 at 3 p.m. at BC Place in Vancouver. Thousands of fans are expected to attend the match or gather at watch parties and fan zones across the city, including the FIFA Fan Festival at Hastings Park. If you are planning to get around the region on game day, here is a comprehensive guide to transit and road conditions.
Getting to BC Place for the Canada vs. Qatar Match
Fans attending the game should use the single entry point on the east side of BC Place. A pedestrian-only corridor known as the Last Mile runs along False Creek between Science World and BC Place, serving as both a fan zone and the sole access route to the stadium. Both ticket holders and non-ticket holders can enjoy the Last Mile festivities. The recommended way to reach BC Place is to take transit to Main Street-Science World SkyTrain station and walk through the Last Mile.
Pre-Game March with the Voyageurs
The Voyageurs, Canada’s national fan group, will gather at Switchmen Street (one block north of East 1st Avenue, perpendicular to Quebec Street) at 12:30 p.m. The march departs at 1 p.m., heading along Quebec Street and into the Last Mile. Fans are encouraged to wear red.
Getting to the FIFA Fan Festival at Hastings Park
Organizers recommend public transit, walking, biking, taxis, ride-hailing, or carpooling to reach Hastings Park. TransLink has launched the 11 Fan Festival Express bus, running continuously between 29th Avenue SkyTrain station (Expo Line), Renfrew SkyTrain station (Millennium Line), and the Fan Festival site, with extra service during peak times. Other TransLink routes serving Hastings Park include the R5 Hastings RapidBus, and buses 14, 28, 130, and 222, all with increased frequency.
Granville Street World Cup Fan Zone
A five-block stretch of Granville Street will be converted into a pedestrian zone for the tournament, featuring expanded patios, public art, entertainment, and vendors. To access the fan zone, take the SkyTrain to Granville station or Burrard station and walk a few blocks.
General Transit and Road Tips
TransLink is operating extra service on SkyTrain and bus routes throughout the day. Expect road closures around BC Place, Hastings Park, and Granville Street. Drivers are advised to avoid these areas and use park-and-ride facilities at SkyTrain stations. For real-time updates, check TransLink’s website or app.
