Saskatoon Airport Terminal Nears Completion in 1955

Every Thursday, we feature an image from the StarPhoenix archives, curated by the City of Saskatoon Archives. Today, we see final construction on the administration building for the new airport terminal, from June 18, 1955. (City of Saskatoon Archives StarPhoenix Collection S-SP-B3414-6)

Only finishing touches remain in construction of the imposing new administration building at the airport and Department of Transport officials are rushing preparations for taking over the new structure. The building was due to be occupied by July 1, but Phil Nicholas, airport manager, said today he could foresee another week or two delay due to non-delivery of some cable. TCA and CPA personnel are reported ready to move in as soon as the building is ready. The structure, of buff and red brick exterior with field stone finishing, is expected to cost more than $500,000. The control cab in the tower is of tinted green glass.
