Russian Attacks Kill 4 in Ukraine, Strike Kyiv Again

Russian attacks killed at least four people across Ukraine on Tuesday, striking the capital Kyiv for the second consecutive day, Ukrainian officials reported.

Kyiv Under Fire

Explosions were heard in Kyiv early Tuesday as air defense systems engaged incoming threats. Debris fell in several districts, causing fires and damage to residential buildings. No casualties were reported in the capital, but the attacks disrupted daily life and renewed fears of intensified strikes.

Casualties Across Regions

In the southern Zaporizhzhia region, two people were killed and three wounded in Russian shelling, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov. In the eastern Donetsk region, one civilian died and two were injured in attacks on the town of Toretsk. Another fatality was reported in the Kherson region, where a drone strike hit a civilian vehicle.

Governor Oleksandr Prokudin of Kherson said, “The enemy continues to terrorize peaceful settlements. We urge residents to heed air raid warnings and stay in shelters.”

Overall, the Ukrainian military reported 87 combat engagements in the past 24 hours, with Russian forces using missiles, drones, and artillery across multiple fronts.

Impact on Infrastructure

Energy infrastructure was also targeted. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a power substation was damaged, leaving several villages without electricity. Emergency crews worked to restore power and assess damage.

Ukraine’s air force said it shot down 12 of 16 drones launched by Russia overnight, as well as two cruise missiles. However, some strikes penetrated defenses, hitting civilian areas.

International Response

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, stating, “Russia’s terror against our cities proves that only stronger air defense and more sanctions can stop this aggression.” He reiterated calls for Western allies to provide additional air defense systems and long-range weapons.

The United Nations condemned the strikes, with a spokesperson saying, “Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited under international humanitarian law. We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities.”

NATO leaders, meeting in Türkiye, discussed increased support for Ukraine, including air defense supplies. U.S. President Donald Trump criticized NATO allies for not spending enough on defense, but the alliance reaffirmed its commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Ongoing Toll

Since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, tens of thousands of civilians have been killed, and millions displaced. The UN estimates over 11,000 civilian deaths, though actual numbers are likely higher. Tuesday’s attacks underscore the persistent danger faced by Ukrainians in both front-line and rear areas.
