This March Break, families in Toronto have a unique opportunity to combine creativity with environmental stewardship through an innovative workshop at Little Canada. From March 16 to 20, the attraction is hosting the Build-a-Tiny-Tree Workshop, where participants craft miniature trees while supporting real reforestation efforts across Canada.
Creative Workshop with Environmental Impact
The hands-on creative experience allows guests of all ages to design and build their own tiny tree using materials and techniques similar to those employed by Little Canada's skilled Makers. What makes this workshop particularly meaningful is its partnership with BMO and One Tree Planted – for every miniature tree created during the workshop, a real tree will be planted somewhere in Canada.
What Participants Can Expect
During the approximately 60-minute sessions, participants will receive all necessary materials including a tree armature, green shrubbery, glue, and other crafting supplies. Little Canada's creative team provides step-by-step guidance, sharing tips and encouragement as each tiny tree comes to life.
At the end of the session, participants face a meaningful choice: they can either take their creation home as a keepsake or leave it behind to be planted within Little Canada's miniature landscapes in the future.
Workshop Details and Logistics
The workshop runs daily from March 16 to 20 with sessions at 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Each session accommodates up to 30 participants, making for an intimate creative experience. The workshops take place in event rooms inside Little Canada, specifically located across from the Little Ottawa Destination.
Participation requires valid general admission to Little Canada plus a $10 workshop ticket. Guests who already have admission only need to purchase the workshop ticket. Passport holders (both individual and family) can access special rates by logging into their portal.
The workshop is suitable for ages 6 and up, with children 12 and under requiring adult supervision. This makes it an ideal family activity during the March Break period when parents are looking for engaging, educational experiences for their children.
Broader Environmental Mission
The Build-a-Tiny-Tree Workshop represents more than just a creative activity – it's part of Little Canada's broader commitment to environmental education and sustainability. By connecting the act of creating miniature trees with real-world reforestation, the workshop helps participants understand how small actions can contribute to larger environmental solutions.
Through the partnership with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation, each workshop participant directly contributes to planting trees across Canada's diverse ecosystems. This connection between creative expression and environmental action creates a memorable learning experience that extends beyond the workshop itself.
For families looking to unplug and engage in meaningful activities during March Break, this workshop offers both creative fulfillment and the satisfaction of contributing to environmental conservation. It represents a growing trend in experiential education that combines hands-on creativity with real-world impact.
