Two fishers were rescued off the coast of Vancouver Island after their vessel struck a rock and began taking on water, according to authorities. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a response from the Canadian Coast Guard.
The boat, a 30-foot fishing vessel, hit a submerged rock near the entrance to a harbor, causing a breach in the hull. The crew issued a distress call, and coast guard personnel arrived on scene within minutes. Both individuals were safely transferred to a coast guard vessel and brought to shore.
No injuries were reported, and the boat was later towed to a nearby marina for repairs. The coast guard reminded boaters to remain vigilant and check navigation charts for hazards.
This rescue comes as part of ongoing efforts by the coast guard to ensure maritime safety in the region. The agency advises all mariners to carry proper safety equipment and maintain communication devices while at sea.
