Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Greater Montreal area, effective immediately. The watch warns of potential heavy downpours, hail, and strong wind gusts that could cause localized flooding and damage.
What to Expect
The storm system is expected to move through the region this afternoon and into the evening. Meteorologists predict rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 millimeters within a short period, along with hail up to 2 centimeters in diameter. Wind gusts could reach 90 kilometers per hour.
Safety Precautions
Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, avoid driving through flooded roads, and stay indoors during the storm. Environment Canada recommends monitoring local weather alerts and having an emergency kit ready.
The watch covers Montreal Island, Laval, and surrounding areas including the South Shore and North Shore. The alert is expected to remain in effect until late tonight.
This comes after a week of warm and humid conditions across southern Quebec. The agency will provide updates as the situation develops.
