Meghan Markle and Kids Join Prince Harry in UK for Invictus Games

Prince Harry is currently in the United Kingdom to mark the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, set to be held in Birmingham. Initially, it was believed that his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, would not accompany him due to security concerns after police denied publicly funded protection. However, according to the Telegraph, Meghan and their children, Archie and Lilibet, have indeed joined Harry, though they will not attend any public events.

Family's First Visit to England in Four Years

This marks the entire Sussex family's first visit to the UK in four years. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry has made multiple trips for charity work and court cases, but Meghan has only returned once—in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth's funeral. She later admitted how difficult it was being away from her young children at that time, when Archie was three and Lilibet was 15 months old.

Harry's References to Family During Engagements

During his public engagements, Harry has made several references to his family. At Birmingham Children's Hospital on Thursday, he told a 12-year-old patient that Archie is "obsessed with Lego" and called him a "master builder," per Hello! magazine. On Friday, he made a surprise appearance on This Morning, where host Alison Hammond asked if his family is proud of his work with wounded veterans through the Invictus Games. "They don't tell me every day that they're proud of me, but yeah, I'm proud of them, they're proud of me," he said, according to Manchester Evening News, adding, "I love my family."

Accommodation and Potential Meeting with King Charles

Following a dispute over Buckingham Palace accommodations, the Sussex family is staying in private accommodation, according to the Telegraph. With all four family members in the UK, there is speculation about a possible private reunion with King Charles, though no official plans have been confirmed.

Security and Legal Challenges

Harry's return began amid tensions over security and a legal defeat in his privacy case against Associated Newspapers. After losing his legal appeal over security in Britain, Harry told the BBC in May 2025 that he couldn't "see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point." He expressed sadness at not being able to show his children his homeland. However, the pull of the Invictus Games, which played a key role in his relationship with Meghan, may have influenced the decision to visit.

The Couple's Toronto Debut

Harry and Meghan made their first public appearance as a couple at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto, where she lived while filming Suits. They attended the opening ceremony and held hands during the wheelchair tennis event. Harry told PEOPLE in 2022, "The Toronto games were our first time out and about publicly in an official way. We were dating at the time, so it was a lot to take in, but fortunately, we were with the perfect community for that. I had always wanted to share these incredible moments with someone special, and to have Meg by my side means everything."
