Iconic Movie Props Head to Auction
Heritage Auctions has announced a remarkable sale featuring some of the most recognizable props in cinema history. Among the highlights are Luke Skywalker's lightsabre from The Empire Strikes Back, the Wicked Witch of the West's hat from The Wizard of Oz, and rugs from The Big Lebowski.
The lightsabre used on screen by Mark Hamill's character in the 1980 Star Wars sequel is expected to fetch a significant sum. This particular prop is a hero lightsabre, meaning it was used in close-up shots and features detailed craftsmanship. Heritage Auctions noted that it is one of the few surviving lightsabres from the original trilogy.
The Wicked Witch's hat, worn by actress Margaret Hamilton in the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, is another standout item. The hat is part of the original costume and has been preserved in remarkable condition. It is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the studio.
Fans of The Big Lebowski can bid on several rugs that were used as set pieces in the film. The rugs, which famously 'tied the room together,' are being sold individually and are expected to attract collectors of cult cinema memorabilia.
The auction is set to take place later this year, with online bidding available. Heritage Auctions has not yet released estimated values for the items, but similar props have sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars in previous sales.
This event offers a rare opportunity for collectors and fans to own a piece of film history. The items will be displayed publicly before the auction, allowing enthusiasts to view them in person.
