Harry and Meghan to produce Netflix Afghan war film

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are developing a feature film adaptation of the Afghan war memoir No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege for Netflix, according to Variety. The book chronicles British Major Adam Jowett's command of Easy Company, which was tasked with holding the Taliban stronghold of Musa Qala in Afghanistan in July 2006. Jowett led his soldiers in defending against waves of attacks.

Harry's military experience

Prince Harry served two tours of Afghanistan during his decade in the British Army. Since leaving the military in 2015, he has remained involved with veterans, notably launching the Invictus Games for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel. Earlier this year, Harry responded to U.S. President Donald Trump's comments that allies like the U.K. stayed "a little back" from front lines in Afghanistan. The Duke stated, "I served there. I made lifelong friends there. And I lost friends there." Trump later acknowledged on Truth Social that U.K. troops are "among the greatest of all warriors."

Production team

The film will be produced by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex through their Archewell Productions, along with scripted content head Tracy Ryerson. The script is written by Matt Charman, a 2016 Oscar nominee for co-writing Steven Spielberg's Cold War drama Bridge of Spies. This project is part of the Sussexes' ongoing collaboration with Netflix, which also includes adaptations of The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory and a polo-set drama, following a docuseries on horse-riding sport. After their previous Netflix contract ended last year, it was replaced by a "first look deal," giving Netflix first refusal on new proposed shows.
