Julia Louis-Dreyfus Roasts Stephen Colbert as Selina Meyer in Savage Farewell
Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer Roasts Colbert

Julia Louis-Dreyfus brought her iconic "Veep" character Selina Meyer back to life on Tuesday to deliver a scathing tribute to Stephen Colbert during one of his final episodes of "The Late Show."

Promoting New Film

Louis-Dreyfus, who was promoting her upcoming movie "The Sheep Detectives," started by acknowledging to Colbert how "people have been coming on the show recently to sing your praises and give you gifts" ahead of his last show, scheduled for next Thursday.

"You know how much I love you. I really do. I wanted to sort of add to the chorus to sort of boost you along whatever brilliant thing you do next," the actress said. She then revealed, to Colbert's surprise, that she had enlisted some writers from "Veep" — a show Colbert is known to adore — to craft lines in the style of the series, delivered in character as Meyer.

A Hilarious Roast

What followed was a uproarious takedown. Louis-Dreyfus, as Meyer, mocked Colbert's appearance, the pronunciation of his surname, his potential future relevance, his passion for "The Lord of the Rings," and the "corporate jizz guzzler" responsible for the upcoming end of the long-running talk show.

She also took a jab at Donald Trump: "Your cancellation gave Donald Trump so much pleasure, I always think of you as the Stormy Daniels of late-night."

Another line — "when my people said I should come and say farewell to you, I was hoping it would be more of a hospice-type situation" — caused Colbert to snort with laughter on air.

More Zingers

Louis-Dreyfus continued: "I don't want you to worry. The only reason everyone rallied around Jimmy Kimmel is because he is more popular."

The final punchline, however, was too NSFW to even be clearly understood.

Viewers can watch the segment from the 18-minute mark of the episode.
